Finding the right point-of-view for your novel or story requires greater consideration than whether you want to write in first or third person. How you structure the narrative design of your work rests squarely on point of view as the foundation. A well thought out point of view makes all the difference between a solid design that holds up for the whole of the story, and a shakier design that might leave readers less than satisfied. As well, point of view has an impact on every other aspect of story: character arc, plot, description, setting, theme. So, how do you select the right point of view for your story? When in the writing process do you commit to a point of view? And how do you sustain point of view for an entire work? This session will explore the pros and cons of the choices, and give writers tools and techniques for discovering the best point of view for their own work-in-progress or new idea.
